VERKADA AND AVIGILON ALTA SUPPORT

Verkada and Avigilon Alta (formerly Ava and Openpath) are cloud-managed physical security platforms. Cameras record on the device and are managed in a web console, and Avigilon Alta adds cloud access control with mobile credentials. Bluetek helps Central PA businesses design, install and run them.

What they are

Unlike a traditional NVR, cloud camera systems store video on each camera or a small appliance and give you browser and mobile access from anywhere, with automatic updates and centralized user management. Access control lets staff unlock doors with a phone, badge or code.

Typical small-business use

Multi-site businesses, medical offices and companies with strict security needs pick these platforms for central management, fast search, audit trails and remote door control.

Problems we fix

We fix cameras that drop offline, door readers that won’t unlock, users with wrong permissions, alerts that fire too often and network rules that block cloud connections.

Licensing quirks

Both platforms require a per-device subscription for cameras and access readers. If licenses lapse, cloud features stop. Hardware and license terms are usually bought together, and longer terms cost less per year. We track terms and help you budget renewals.

Network requirements

Cloud cameras need reliable outbound internet and enough upload bandwidth for remote viewing. We put them on their own network, open only the required connections and size the internet line.

Access control setup

We set door schedules, groups, holiday hours and lockdown rules, and connect user lists to Microsoft 365 or Google so departing staff lose door access when their account is disabled.

Search and alerts

We configure people and vehicle search, motion zones and alerts so you can find events fast without alert fatigue.

Privacy and retention

We set retention by location and limit who can view or export video.

Installation

We pull cable, mount cameras and readers, coordinate with door hardware vendors and test every device.

How it fits our stack

These platforms run on networks we manage, and tying door access to Microsoft 365 accounts makes offboarding one step.

Choosing between platforms

Verkada offers a broad catalog of cameras, sensors and intercoms in one console. Avigilon Alta is known for flexible cloud access control and works with a range of door hardware. We compare features, license terms and your doors before recommending one.

Moving off an old NVR

We plan phased replacements, reuse cabling where possible and keep the old system recording until the new one is verified.

WHERE CLOUD SYSTEMS TRIP UP

OFFLINE DEVICES

A switch or firewall change knocks cameras or door readers offline.

APP ACCESS

A new manager cannot unlock doors in the Alta Open app.

LICENSE LAPSES

Verkada Command licenses near expiration with no plan.

STAFF CHANGES

Former employees still have door credentials.

ACCESS TIED TO YOUR STAFF LIST

When someone leaves, their email, laptop and door access should end the same day. We tie door credentials into the same offboarding checklist we use for Microsoft 365.

WHAT WE HANDLE

NETWORK

PoE switches, VLANs and firewall rules the devices need.

USERS
