MICROSOFT AZURE SETUP AND SUPPORT
Microsoft Azure is Microsoft’s cloud platform. Small businesses use it to run servers as virtual machines, host remote desktops, store backups and manage identity with Microsoft Entra ID. Bluetek plans, builds and manages Azure environments for Central PA businesses, with a close eye on the monthly bill.
What it is
Azure rents computing, storage and networking by the hour or month, so you can run a server without buying hardware. It ties directly into Microsoft 365 and Entra ID, which most of our clients already use.
Typical small-business use
Common uses are moving an aging file or application server into an Azure VM, running Azure Virtual Desktop so staff reach a line-of-business app from anywhere, storing backups offsite, and connecting offices to Azure with a site-to-site VPN.
Problems we fix
We fix runaway costs, VMs that are oversized or left running, slow connections to cloud servers, broken VPN tunnels and permissions that give too many people too much access.
Licensing and billing quirks
Azure billing is usage-based and easy to misread. Reserved instances and savings plans can cut VM costs significantly for steady workloads, and Azure Hybrid Benefit can reuse existing Windows Server licenses. Some apps need special licensing in the cloud. We review billing monthly and set budgets and alerts.
Should this server move to Azure?
Not every workload belongs in the cloud. Large file shares, apps that need low latency and heavy graphics often run better on site. We compare total costs honestly before moving anything.
Azure Virtual Desktop
AVD lets staff use a Windows desktop hosted in Azure from any device. It’s useful for seasonal staff, remote teams and apps that don’t run well over VPN. We size host pools and schedule shutdowns to save money.
Security
We use Entra ID with multifactor sign-in, restrict management access, turn on Defender for Cloud recommendations and lock network access to what’s needed.
Backup and recovery
Azure VMs need backups too. We configure Azure Backup or our standard backup tools and test restores.
Getting started
We start with a small pilot, measure performance and cost, then plan the full move.
How it fits our stack
Azure extends the Microsoft 365 and Intune environment we already manage, so identity, devices and cloud servers follow the same security rules.
- Azure workloads planned and set up
- Microsoft Entra ID sign-in and MFA
- Costs reviewed so bills do not creep
AZURE PROBLEMS WE FIX
SURPRISE BILLS
Virtual machines left running and storage nobody is using.
OPEN ACCESS
Admin accounts without MFA and resources exposed to the internet.
NO BACKUP
Cloud servers assumed to be backed up when they are not.
HALF MIGRATED
A server move that stalled and now runs in two places.
AZURE OR SOMETHING SIMPLER?
Not every business needs Azure. Many are better served by Microsoft 365 and SharePoint alone. We look at what you actually run and recommend the simplest option that works.
- Honest fit assessment
- Monthly cost estimate up front
- Security baseline applied
- Documented setup
