DATTO BACKUP SETUP AND SUPPORT

Datto, part of Kaseya, makes backup and business continuity appliances and cloud backup services. A Datto SIRIS or ALTO device in your office backs up servers frequently, replicates to Datto’s cloud and can run a failed server as a virtual machine within minutes. Bluetek manages Datto for Central PA businesses.

What it does

Datto takes image-based backups of servers and key workstations, often every hour, keeps them on the local appliance and copies them to Datto’s cloud. If a server dies, the appliance can boot it as a virtual machine so work continues while we repair or replace hardware.

Typical small-business use

Businesses that can’t afford a day without their server use Datto: accounting firms in tax season, manufacturers running ERP, medical offices with practice software and law offices with document systems.

Recovery options

We can restore a file, a folder or a whole server, virtualize locally on the appliance or in the Datto cloud if the office itself is unavailable after a fire or flood.

Problems we fix

We fix failed backups, screenshot verification failures, appliances running out of space, slow offsite sync and agents that stopped reporting. We monitor daily and resolve failures before they matter.

Licensing quirks

Datto appliances are sold with a service subscription that includes cloud retention and hardware replacement terms. Retention length, device size and term all affect cost, and appliances eventually age out. We track contract dates and plan refreshes.

Screenshot verification

Datto boots each backup in a sandbox and takes a screenshot to prove it works. We review those results and dig into any that fail.

Ransomware detection

Datto watches backups for patterns that suggest ransomware and alerts us, which can catch an infection early.
